Equipment & Operator Services

Hi-rail vehicles, boom trucks, floats and Mark IV operators and trainers, with the crew to run them.

CUNA puts machines and qualified people on the railway: hi-rail vehicles with operators, boom trucks, float trucks, material trailers, and Mark IV operators and trainers.

This is not a bare equipment-rental catalogue. The offer is the machine with railroaders who can use it on track.

How we work

  1. 01

Define the machine and the people

What has to be done on the rail, and which qualifications the host railway requires.

  2. 02

    Dispatch

Equipment and operators, including A-Z licensed drivers where the highway move requires it.

  3. 03

    Work under protection

CROR-qualified people on the host railway’s terms.

Qualifications

  • A-Z licensed operators

Material moves and boom/float work on public roads require licensed operators, not just people who can run a machine on track.

  • CROR

Host railways expect CROR-qualified people for flagging, protection and work in the operating environment.

  • eRailSafe

Without a current eRailSafe credential, crews cannot access many CN and other host-railway sites.

  • ISN

Procurement teams use ISNetworld scores to decide who is allowed on site.

Equipment used

  • Hi-rail vehicles

Put a crew and tools on the rail for inspection, maintenance and emergency work.

  • Boom trucks

Lift and place rail, ties, materials and components on the job.

  • Float trucks

Move machines and heavy railway materials between yards and job sites.

  • Material trailers

Carry rail, ties, ballast products and site materials to and from the work.

  • Mark IV tamper

    Operators and trainers

Surface and line track to geometry. CUNA provides Mark IV operators and trainers; fleet ownership is not confirmed.
